Focus on Your Lane

Imagine if Usain Bolt ran through the finishing line instead of jogging and beating his chest in the 100m race at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China? Maybe he would have gotten a better world record than the 9.69 seconds. Who knows? A year later, he lowered the previous World Record, clocking in at 9.58 seconds at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin. In that race, he ran through the finishing line. In both races, Usain accomplished phenomenal feats. However, in the latter race, he was more focused, which gave him a better World Record that is still standing today.



To unlock your true potential and accomplish your goals, you will need grit, determination, and healthy habits to make it to the finishing line. There will be many distractions that will steer you off the road to success, and you need to be aware of them so that you can gain the skills to combat them.



What Causes Distraction?

Impatience

You give up when you do not see immediate results. Being impatient is natural, but that does not give you what you need. How can you overcome this challenge? One way is to compare your starting point to where you are at now. If there is any progress, even if it is minutia, then you are on your way to achieving your goal. Remember, Rome was not built in a day.



Comparing yourself to others

We all look for ways to measure our success, and that is not bad. However, when you measure your success against others, it can be demotivating. For instance, you just started exercising and saw someone with the ideal body or weight you desire. You do not know the steps that the person took to reach his ideal weight. How can you compare yourself to that person when you are just beginning? Do you think you are fair to yourself? Instead, focus at what you want to accomplish and go over your goals. They will remind you of the big prize that lies ahead. Everybody has a different starting point, so you need to finish your race.



Procrastination

Procrastination is putting off a less desirable task for another task. We are all susceptible to procrastination. The matter is, how many times do you procrastinate? If you are a chronic procrastinator, then you will never reach your goal or take a longer time to get there. You must break the unhealthy habit and insert a healthy one. As a result, the desire to procrastinate will become weaker. For instance, when you want to accomplish a task, have a playlist; that is your cue to work on the goal ahead. It is important to note that habits die hard, so choose healthy ones.

In life, you have many distractions, but it is up to you to have that strong desire to achieve your goal. No one can do it for you. Remove all the distractions and look straight ahead for the prize. Remember to focus on your lane.
